Abstract

This study aimed to identify the relationship between personality and team conflict. This study employed a sectional approach in collecting data. Data were collected from one of the company in Melaka, Malaysia namely LTK Sdn Bhd. This study collected a sample of 100 full time employees using simple random probability sampling technique. A multicultural experience questionnaire with a likert-scale rating 1-5 was used. The data was processed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20.0 for window. To ensure reliability and validity the questionnaire was checked by Cronbach’s alpha and principal components analysis. The correlation analysis shows that personality big five have positive relationship with team conflict, where by all the components showing positive correlation. The main result indicate that conscientiousness have highly correlate significant with relationship conflict, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism have correlate significant and openness have weak correlate significant with relationship conflict but correlation value is positive. Neuroticism have correlate significant with task conflict and the other components (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion and agreeableness) show weak correlate significant with task conflict but correlation value is positive. Agreeableness and neuroticism have correlate significant with process conflict, while openness, conscientiousness and extraversion have weak correlate significant but correlation value is positive. Implication and suggestion for future research are discussed.
