The relationship between parents’ attachment to their parents and children's creatives

Abstract

ABSTRACT The present study was planned to determine the relationship between parents’ attachment styles to their own parents and their children's creativity levels. 71 mothers, 71 fathers, and 71 4-6-year-old children were included in the study. As data collection tools, the Korea-Integrative Creativity Test and Parental Bonding Instrument Scale were administered to the children and to the parents, respectively. According to the results, there was no significant relationship between the creativity skills of the children and the attachment styles of their parents according to gender, except for one sub-dimension; whereas there was a significant relationship between parents’ gender-related attachment styles in overprotection sub-dimension and children's age-related creativity skills. Parents’ attachment styles to their parents were significantly correlated with their children's creativity skills. Children who have secure attachments to their parents have a sense of self-sufficiency that leads to a better development of creativity.
