Abstract

Purpose: Osteoarthritis is one of the leading causes to disability in the older population around the world. Patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PFOA) featured by patellar cartilage lesion is highly prevalent in this population. Lower limb muscle strength weakness is widely believed to be a biomechanical risk factor to the development of PFOA. However, there lacked evidence about how these muscle weakness and patellar cartilage lesion linked with each other. This study aimed to explore the relationship between quadriceps, hip abductor muscle strength and patellar cartilage volume in senior community adults.
