Abstract

Abstract: Chronic cough is multifactorial in origin, affects quality of life adversely, including preventing singers from performing, and poses a diagnostic challenge. Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is one common cause of chronic cough, but there are many causes of which singing teachers should be aware. Recently, research has been completed to investigate the relationship between chronic cough and LPR to help with treatment and management of this complicated disease process, and that new information is summarized; but awareness of other causes is stressed because many physicians are not expert in cough management. Singers and teachers need to be informed health care consumers.
