Abstract

The acoustic emission from crack tip yielding in reactor pressure vessel steel is characterized in terms of the crack opening displacement. It is found that in laboratory specimens the experimental results deviate from the theoretical curve when general yielding occurs. In pressure vessels the theoretical correlation is expected to be followed.
