Abstract

1. 1. The concentration of hemoglobin in blood of boreal toads is positively correlated with body weight. 2. 2. However, blood hemoglobin concentration does not increase proportion- ately with body weight; and, consequently, the ratio of hemoglobin to body weight (Hb/g) is inversely related to body size. 3. 3. In anurans, weight-related variations in blood hemoglobin concentration and in the hemoglobin-to-body weight ratio probably are the underlying basis, respectively, for weight-related variations in blood oxygen capacity and in the ratio of blood oxygen capacity to body weight.
