Abstract

A brief description is given of the measuring methods used for determining the coefficients of static and dynamic friction of individual fibres and the coefficient of kinetic friction of yarns. After some general remarks on the possibility of finding correlations between single fibre friction values and the behaviour during processing, some examples are given for the following cases:— handle of fibres carding on the cotton system; in addition data are given for the sliver strength drawing on the cotton system carding and drawing on the worsted system tow-to-yarn process behaviour of yarn packages behaviour of tyre yarn, particularly the twisting of cord.
