Abstract

Abstract The relation between chemical structure and uncoupling activity in congeners of salicylate has been studied by means of their effects on the oxygen consumption of a suspension of baker's yeast utilising a limited quantity of glucose. Salicylic acid, salicylaldehyde, 2-hydroxyacetophenone, salicylamide, 3-methylsalicylic and 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acids were found to show uncoupling activity.
