Abstract

Anton syndrome is a rare stroke syndrome that can occur after injury to the bilateral occipital lobes of the brain and result in cortical blindness with a lack of awareness of visual deficits. Patients with this syndrome tend to dismiss their blindness, resolutely insist that their vision is intact, and confabulate responses when asked to describe their visual perceptions. This syndrome can theoretically occur in any person with cortical blindness despite the mechanism of injury to the occipital lobe. We describe a patient who developed cortical blindness with Anton syndrome after bilateral occipital lobe infarctions.
