Abstract

We have seen how the development and implementation of metals recycling projects can be substantially impacted by regulatory requirements and activities. These range from classifying potential feed materials and, thus, the regulations that apply; specifying technologies; restricting the disposition of residues and by-products; requiring time-tables and performances that are not realistic in the process industries (even when they are well engineered; often they are not); and creating liabilities for non-performance or mistakes that not only take the fun out of it, but can make it hazardous to economic, professional, and business life.
