Abstract

In this chapter, the issues of the trace metal pollution in the soil and groundwater from the Hetao Area are discussed. It includes the behaviors and pollution of trace metals in soil and groundwater, the distribution of As in the hair of local residents, and isotope Sr and Pb change and implying in the groundwater. The discussion is based on analysis of the relationships between the behavior processes, the cause of formation of the pollution, the factors of the pollution, and their impacts for the pollutants, especially for As, in the Hetao Area. The cause of the pollution in this area is concluded as follows: The groundwater of the Hetao Area was affected by the components from upper reaches of the area, and the trace metals As, etc., in groundwater and soil of the Hetao Area were from the zone with higher geochemical background levels of these elements in the weathered substances in the upper reaches by the migration with water.
