Abstract
Measurements of the fraction of the solar radiation passing through stratus cloud reflected by the sea surface led to the conclusion that the radiation is not completely diffuse. The average albedo was 10.5 per cent with values varying with cloud thickness and solar elevation. The indication is that for completely diffuse radiation Schmidt's theoretical value of 17 per cent would apply.
