Abstract

AbstractHigh‐crystallizing‐point benzene has been produced from low‐gravity benzene fractions by treatment with chlorine gas followed by distillation. The process is suitable for the removal of olefins, paraffins, naphthenes and thiophen from benzene fractions, but only for the removal of olefins and thiophens from toluene fractions. Commercial outlets would be required for the still residues, which consist of chlorinated hydrocarbons and thiophens. The residues have been investigated analytically.
