Abstract

The isothermal reduction of pyrolusite, β-MnO 2, in a hydrogen atmosphere has been studied. Under these conditions the reduction product is Mn 3O 4. The kinetics of the reaction were determined and the activation energy for the process was calculated to be 140.0 kJ mole −1.
