Abstract

AbstractThe numerical analysis of S690 high‐strength steel plate girders with welded sections loaded under combined bending, shear, and compression is presented. The ultimate strength of steel plate girders is evaluated using formulations based on the latest standard prEN 1993‐1‐5 for the Reduced Stress Method (RSM). A development of the RSM method that considers the possibility of stress shedding from the web to the flanges, named RSM+S, is introduced. A parametric study is performed to compare the results of these methods with the results of the GMNIA numerical analysis of S690 high‐strength steel plate girders with one longitudinal closed stiffener located at different positions along the compressed part of the web. The scatter and average difference between the FE model results and the RSM+S and RSM results are compared.
