Abstract

This article aims to inform and update aesthetic nurses' knowledge of common facial skin conditions. Although many skin disorders affect the face, some are specific to the facial area. Five common facial skin conditions are discussed in this article: acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and cutaneous lupus erythematous (CLE). Aesthetic nurses have an important role to play with patients who have facial skin conditions, as they will often seek advice on available treatment options and daily skincare regimens. Those with facial skin conditions may also be distressed about their appearance or feel they have facial disfigurement, so they will often require support and empathy to restore their confidence. It is important for aesthetic nurses to be aware of how medical cosmetic treatments may affect common facial skin conditions.
