Abstract
It is stated in jacket of this book that it is meant to be complete and authoritative, and that the broad scope of survey will give both student and practitioner an overall understanding of subject. Such is not case. As editors state in their preface, book is meant to be a critical compendium dealing with biology of mature, mammalian red blood cell, and meant primarily to serve present and future investigator. As editors also state in their preface, some aspects of red blood cell have not been as well covered as might have been hoped. The chapters deal with composition of red cells, ion and water permeability, metabolism (pentose phosphate, glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase, lipids, hemoglobin, methemoglobin), oxygen and carbon dioxide transport, nature and genetics of blood group substances, erythrocyte life span, thiamine and pyridoxine in erythrocytes,
