Abstract

Reciprocity theorems play an important role in the analysis of electromagnetic field problems. Presented in this paper are two new reciprocity theorems for momentum and angular momentum derived from Maxwell equations, which describe the relationship between the sources (current source $${\varvec{J}}$$ , charge source $$\rho$$ ) and the fields (magnetic flux density $${\varvec{B}}$$ , electric field intensity $${\varvec{E}}$$ ) of two sets of electromagnetic systems with the dimension of momentum rate or angular momentum rate (i.e., force or torque). Compared with the existing reciprocity theorems, the theorems derived in this paper illustrate the interactions between two sets of electromagnetic systems from another perspective, i.e., the momentum and the angular momentum.
