Abstract

Summary In order to assess the validity of the Jourard Self-Disclosure Questionnaire, 82 male and female subjects answered questionnaire items in terms of disclosure to a specific, same-sexed friend who accompanied each subject to the experiment. Each friend also completed the same questionnaire in terms of his or her perception of the subject's actual disclosure in the past. The two ratings were rank-order correlated and the resulting correlation coefficient of .76 indicated a high degree of agreement between each subject and paired friend. The result was interpreted as support for the validity of the JSDQ under conditions where specific disclosures to a significant person are measured.
