Abstract

Abstract This chapter introduces the reception of Thomas Aquinas by a number of theologians of the early twentieth century. While each of these students of Aquinas could be labelled as ‘neo-scholastic’ theologians, the authors represented here also embody a wide range of approaches (historical, pastoral) to the theological teaching of Thomas Aquinas. This chapter introduces each of these neo-scholastic Thomist theologians in relation to their reception of Aquinas on key topics related to the principal ecclesial crises of the period, especially the nature of theology, Christian faith, and dogma. Furthermore, the reception of Aquinas’ doctrine of grace and pneumatology as a source for the moral and spiritual renewal of the Church by key neo-scholastic authors is also presented.
