Abstract

This article surveys recent development in Old Testament scholarship, calling attention particularly to the following achievements: 1. The literary criticism of the Old Testament books. 2. The rapidly increasing understanding of the relations between Israel and the ancient Orient. 3. The psychological appreciation of prophecy. 4. The development of Hebrew ethics and religion. 5. The new setting for the study of Hebrew history.
