Abstract

This study aims to identify academic procrastination among students at A’Sharqiyah University and explore the statistically significant differences in academic procrastination for students at A’Sharqiyah University attributed to their demographic characteristics. The study identified academic procrastination among students at A’Sharqiyah University and used a random sample of 402 students at A’Sharqiyah University. The researchers used a descriptive survey approach to answer the research questions. The academic procrastination scale was prepared by reviewing several scales that measured academic procrastination and relevant variables. The study was conducted in the first semester of the academic year 2022 – 2023. The findings showed that academic procrastination is spreading among the students at A’Sharqiyah University to a medium level, which is different from the hypothetical level of the phenomenon in the society of a statistical significance lower than 0.05. The spread of this phenomenon among the students at A’Sharqiyah University did not differ according to gender, college, or study year, but it varied according to cumulative average or GPA. The findings showed that average students whose GPAs ranged between 2.00 and 3.00 were most of the students who procrastinated in completing their academic tasks compared to the students whose GPAs were higher than 3.00. The study recommended making more effort to help students organize their time, raise their learning motivation, and train them in academic self-efficacy.
