Abstract
The features of discrete and continuous ambiguities in the real phenomenological optical potential are clarified. The continuous ambiguity in the real potential for the scattering of 90 MeV 6Li and 7Li ions from 27Al is investigated. For 6Li the ambiguity is of Igo type but for 7Li it is of Vrn=constant type. The implications of this are that 7Li is less strongly absorbed than 6Li.
