Abstract

The paradigm shift from a traditional system of education to e-learning is gaining acceptance worldwide. Thus, the appraisal of its worthiness becomes vital for practical application as an instrument for different environments. This current study examined the institutions' preparedness and perceptions for the effect of electronic learning in institutions of higher education. The descriptive-analytical method was used in addition to the case study method. A survey was conducted to describe and analyse electronic learning components and how ready are the stakeholders and institutions regarding usage, culture, and understanding. A questionnaire was distributed to a sample purposively selected from students of higher education institutes in the state of Gombe in Nigeria, where the sample size was 193 students. The findings show students' high acceptance and believe that e-learning would positively improve the experience in learning. Hence, e-learning may ultimately benefit students to build confidence in enchanting their knowledge by becoming independent learners.
