Abstract

Abstract2‐Phenylazocrotonic acid ethyl and methyl ester were investigated as examples of compounds containing a conjugated system consisting of an NN double bond conjugated with a C‐C double bond. It was found that ozone combines by addition to the CC double bond, hydrogen and hydrochloric acid in the 1:4 position, the last substance splitting off alcohol at the same time and forming 1‐phenyl‐3‐methyl‐4‐chloropyrazolone‐5, while the action of phenyl magnesium bromide was exactly comparable with the action of the same substance on azobenzene.
