Abstract
The effect of temperature on the disproportionation equilibrium of the radical anion of azobenzene in tetrahydrofuran has been examined by determining the radical-anion concentration at different temperatures by electron spin resonance. The following values were obtained at 0° for the disproportionation: with Li+ as gegen ion, ΔG°= 0·15 kcal. mole–1, ΔH°=–2·2 kcal. mole–1, ΔS°=–8·5 cal. mole–1 deg.–1; with Na+ as gegen ion, ΔG°= 1·25 kcal. mole–1; ΔH°=–4·3 kcal. mole–1; ΔS°=–20·1 cal. mole–1 deg.–1.
