Abstract

The additions of methyl, ethyl, and isopropyl radicals to allene in the gas phase have been studied by the ā€œaldehyde method.ā€ Additions occur exclusively at the terminal carbon atoms in allene, with rates in accordance with the following Arrhenius parameters, based on zero activation energies and assumed or experimental A-factors for the combination reactions of the alkyl radicals: [graphic omitted] There is no evidence for isomerisation of the alkenyl adduct radicals produced in these reactions.
