Abstract

The solvolysis of hexphenylditin by a variety of inorganic acids leads to the formation of compounds having the empirical formula SnX3. Tin-119 Mossbauer spectroscopy shows that these compounds should be formulated as Sn(II)Sn(IV)X6: in some of these compounds the non-bonding electron pair of the Sn(II) is stereochemically inactive.
