Abstract

The products formed from the reaction of aromatic aldehydes and ammonium acetate with pentane-2,4-dione are 5-acetyl-2,4-diaryl-6-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidines; when 1-phenyl-2-phenylsulfonylethan-1-one is used instead of pentane-2,4-dione, 3-aryl-3-arylmethyleneamino-1 -phenyl-2phenylsulfonylpropan-1-ones are formed. There is no evidence of oxazine formation.
