Abstract

The reaction of 2-cyclohexenone with trifluoroperoxyacetic acid gave 2-hydroxyadipic acid as a final product. The failure of 2-cyclohexenone to yield Δ2-caprolactone or 2,3-dihydroxycaprolaaone demonstrates the favored transition state involves carbon-carbon double bond participation and not alkyl group migration.
