Abstract

UV irradiation of (η 5-C 5H 5)Fe(CO) 2SiR 3 in the presence of triphenyl phosphite gives the ortho-metalation product (η 5-C 5H 5) Fe- o-C 6H 4OP (OC 6H 5) 2-[P(OC 6H 5) 3] with elimination of R 3SiH. Triethyl phosphite leads with substitution of one carbonyl group to (η 5-C 5H 5)Fe(CO)[P(OC 2H 5) 3]SiR 3. The optically active R(+)-(η 5-C 5H 5)Fe(CO) 2Si(CH 3)(C 6H 5)(1-C 10H 7) yields (—)-CH 3C 6H 5-(1-C 10H 7)SiH with complete retention of configuration. Mechanisms are suggested for these reactions.
