Abstract

The 90Zr( 3He, d) 91Nb reaction was investigated using incident 3He ions of 18 MeV. The ground-state Q-value was measured to be - 0.227 ±0.020 MeV. Deuteron spectra were obtained at 16 scattering angles between 5° and 80°. A distorted-wave analysis of the data was carried out to obtain I p values and spectroscopic factors; j values were deduced. A comparison of these results with shell-model calculations of the low-lying states in 91Nb gave additional information about the ground-state wave function of 90Zr. The higher excited I p = 0, 2, 4 transitions were found to be the T < components of the single-particle states of the next major shell ( 2 d 3 2 , 2d 3 2 , 1g 7 2 , 3s 1 2 ).
