Abstract

Nigella damascena seeds, enriched or not by10 B, were irradiated with thermal neutrons. In both cases the effects on chromosomes were investigated during the first mitotic cycle after the onset of germination. All the aberrations were found to be of the chromosome type-that is, induced during the presynthetic G1 period. By comparison with the effects of137 Cs gamma rays on the same material, RBE values could be calculated for several kinds of aberrations. RBE's were found to be generally high. These findings are discussed and compared with other results reported in the literature.
