Abstract
The dispersion curve of the Rayleigh phonon on Cu(100) has been measured by high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy throughout the two-dimensional Brillouin zone in the ΓX direction. Lattice dynamical slab calculations fit the experimental data when the force constant between the first and second layer is stiffened by 20%.
