Abstract

When lanthana is incorporated in lead titanate, lead oxide is eliminated and the formation of A-site vacancies predominates in the perovskite phase. Depending on the partial pressure, PbO can be taken up again from the vapour phase, and the A-site vacancies are converted into B-site vacancies. The range in which a perovskite phase can exist with A-site and B-site vacancies has been investigated within the ternary system PbO - La 2O 3 - TiO 2 by means of X-ray diffraction measurements electron microprobe analysis, chemical analysis, and microscopic analysis.
