Abstract

The validity of representing the nonlinear part of a conservation equation by a finite number of node points is discussed. The difference between the solutions of the original and approximate problems obtained by the random choice method is analyzed in a probabilistic manner, and is found to stay small with a probability close to one for a finite time depending on the discretization.
