Abstract

When 4-t-butylpyrocatechol was irradiated with Co/sup 60/ gamma rays in air--saturated 0.8N H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/, it was oxidized to the corresponding 4-t- butyl-o-quinone. An investigation for other organic products gave negative results. It was found that the G-values for the appearance of 4-t-butyl-oquinone and H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ were independent of total dose, dose rate, and initial concentration above 5.0 x 10/sup -3/ mole/l.
