Abstract

In this work we describe an experimental investigation of the effect of neutron irradiation on the magnetic properties change of nuclear pressure vessel materials. The irradiations were carried out in the 1MW open pool reactor at National Tsing Hwa University for various fluence levels up to 10 17 n/cm 2 under neutron energy greater than 0.1 Mev.The experimental results show that there is a linear relation between magnetic hysteresis energy loss with the irradiation dose levels. The magnetic loss factor increases with Vicker microhardness and decreases with thermal annealing temperature. This reduction may be attributed to the formation of tiny void or subgrains which become significant at an higher temperature and higher integrated flux levels.
