Abstract

The Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder and the most prevalent dementia. In 2022, over 10% of more than 65-year-old individuals are suffered from the Alzheimer’s disease in USA. This disorder is multifactorial and genetic factors are crucial for the development of the Alzheimer’s disease. To determine specific genetic factors and estimate the relative influence of genetic factors on the Alzheimer’s Disease, quantitative genetic studies including twin studies and family studies are utilised by researchers. However, quantitative genetic studies could be limited by not being representative and insufficient sample size. To strengthen the conclusion obtained from quantitative studies, molecular genetic studies such as GWAS metanalysis could be applied to provide possible development pathways of different genetic factors. The combination of these studies for research on the Alzheimer’s disease could also aid investigations of other disorders and behaviours, providing more evidence based basis for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
