Abstract

A quantitative method of estimating adsorbed flotation agents on the surface of mineral particles has been developed. The technique involves heating ca. 100-mg samples of the conditioned material under an oxygen atmosphere, using a DTA apparatus; heat liberated by combustion of the flotation agent gives a direct measure of the amount of adsorbate present. In this way, it is possible to estimate either dodecylamine or oleate adsorbed on titanium dioxide down to 0.1 mg g −1.
