Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a disorder that can be fatal due to the complications which the public does not know much about. YouTube™, the very popular worldwide video site, is used to learn about health issues. We aimed to investigate the utility of the information provided in Turkish YouTube videos about OSA. Keyword of "Sleep Apnea’’ was searched on YouTube. Three researchers classified and analyzed 151 videos by a customized scoring-system along with likes, dislikes, views. The most searched videos were educational (79%) and news (11%). They had the highest quality scores of 10.8. ANOVA testing showed significant differences between all categories and views/d (P=0.00), likes (P=0.00) and dislikes (P=0.01), audiovisual quality (P=0.03), comprehensiveness (P=0.01), and content scores (P=0.01). Most videos mentioned otorhinolaryngology (51%) and surgery (31%), nearly half (46%) discussed positive airway pressure in the management of OSA. Views/d (n:56.7) and likes (n:370.3) of the testimonial videos were found to be the highest. However, views/d (n:7.1) and likes (n:31.7) of the educational videos were observed to be the lowest. Despite the satisfactory number and quality of educational videos, minimally viewing rate is a guide to improve the videos for healthcare professionals. Table 1. Comparison of scores based on category
