Abstract
The Q'CODEâ„¢ is a set of procedures proposed for the purpose of describing individual geographical and topographic maps, plans and views of historical interest in a short phrase. Its core element or 'call number' consists of a string of 33 characters (letters, digits and blank spaces) and attempts to find an optimal compromise between considerations such as economy of space, readability, absence of ambiguity and adaptability to individual users' needs. The code is fully compatible with personal computers, and available word processing and data base software of all makes. It does not require any programming skills on the part of the user.
