Abstract

Recently attention has been given to the solid state readout of large pyroelectric arrays, particularly the interfacing of two dimensional arrays with a silicon charge coupled device (CCD). The paper gives the theoretical analysis of the electrical and thermal interface, identifies the critical design parameters and develops the signal and noise performance for a suitable design. A Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference (NETD) in the region of 0.5°C is predicted. Experimental measurements on custom CCDs verify the analysis.
