Abstract

There are different types of games that try to use the motivation of a gaming situation in a learning context. All these different types are considered separately these days. This paper introduces a new terminology ‘Competence Developing Game’ (CDG) as an umbrella term. Furthermore, a new assessment framework is presented that provides a standardized and comparable evaluation of all kind of CDGs. With this new framework, different types of games can be assessed, compared and optimized in a focused and effective way.
