Abstract

The central part of the 7.8-km-long ∅resund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden is a cable-stayed bridge with a span of 490 m. The bridge has two levels carrying a motorway on the upper level and a highspeed railway below, with steel trusses connecting the upper and lower decks. At the ∅resund Bridge, the pylons are tall free-standing towers that directly express their function. They are easily understood and echo the clear appearance of the planar harp cable system and the deck truss structure.
