Abstract

This is a very special year for our Society, its silver anniversary. Twenty-five years ago on May 22, 1981, the American Gynecological Society and the American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, through mutual agreement, merged to become The American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society. The older of the 2 predecessor organizations was the American Gynecological Society, which also has a special birthday. It was founded 130 years ago in 1876. E. Stewart Taylor published in 1985 the history of the American Gynecological Society (1876-1981), or AGS, and the American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (1888-1981), or AAOG.
