Abstract

Some of the basic principles in public health nursing serve as guidelines to the involvement of a public health nurse in family planning. These follow: (a) Public health nursing is an established community activity, based on recognized needs and functioning within the total public health program; (b) Health education and counseling for patient, family and community are an integral part of public health nursing; and (c) The nurse is prepared professionally to function as a health worker in the community.
