In view of the rapid and complex development of psychosomatic medicine, it is valuable to periodically reconsider the current status of various theoretical and practical issues. Specifically, I would like to review some of the clinical, experimental, and theoretical contributions of psychology to psychosomatic medicine. What is the essence of these contributions? What is still of value today, and what bears importance for future explorations? Finally. what is the current role of the psychologist in the health care team on a psychiatric ward or in a general hospital, and how does he participate in diagnosis and treatment of psychosomatic disorders?
