Abstract

The amounts of the various proteins and protein-bound carbohydrates of parotid saliva were compared in a caries immune group of sixty-three adults and a comparable caries-active group. No significant differences were found in: (a) the amount of total protein, protein-bound hexosamine, fucose, hexose and sialic acid; (b) the average percentage distribution of the various protein fractions as determined by paper electrophoresis or; (c) the proportion of fucose and hexosamine to nitrogen in the two major carbohydrate-proteins separated by electrophoresis.
