Abstract
Objective To investigate the protective role of VitA on the conjunctival goblet cells of rabbit after conjunctival and sclerotic incision. Methods Sixty-four rabbits were randomly divided into VitA gel treated and control groups.Another 16 rabbits were act as normal group without any operation. After the rabbit model of conjunctival and sclerotic incision operation was made, silt-limp microscope and impression cytology, light microscope and HE, PAS staining technique were used to observe the number and morphological difference of goblet cells in conjunctiva between operative groups. Results The HE, PAS staining detection showed that the number of conjunctival goblet cells in control group were lower than that in VitA gel group within 1 month after surgery (P<0.05).The number of conjunctival goblet cells in VitA gel group and control group was lower than that in normal group (P<0.05).Conclusions The results indicate that VitA gel significantly inhibit the decrease of conjunctival goblet cells after conjunctival and sclerotic incision operation in rabbits.
